Be Aware of Self Care

As students and aspiring clinicians, one of the biggest things we should pay attention to (and perhaps don't practice enough...!) is self care, What is self care? Self care is the intentional effort to make sure you are taking care of yourself physically, mentally, spiritually, and any other way that allows you to be at an optimal level of health.

So, why should this matter? It can be pretty difficult to effectively manage self care, especially if you happen to have a particularly busy schedule. But remember: if you aren't at an optimal level of health, how can you help those you work with? Keep in mind, self care is what you do outside of your work. After acts of self care, you should feel GOOD mentally and physically! We challenge you to think of three acts of self care and practice these this week. What works? What helps you feel refreshed after a long day? Comment on this post and let us know what works for you.

Want to learn more about self care? Join FCSG for Self Care Week the week of November 28th. Presenters from Sanctuary for Families will tell us about self care and how working with survivors of trauma can lead to vicarious traumatization, Vicarious traumatization is the effect of repeatedly listening to traumatic stories to the point that clinicians experience traumatic stress symptoms themselves.

As a way to solidify all the learning you'll do after the presentation, PRACTICE self care by joining FCSG and Jessica Greenfield for a FREE yoga class!! Remember to RSVP to reserve your spot!
